"As its name suggests, Ribs is composed of a series of arching forms over a movable aluminium spine. In 1998 I wanted to learn about moulding plywood so I made the first version of Ribs in timber. But the form lends itself to many possible materials. Over the years it has been used in so many different environments and I have liked it in every single one.

I have fond memories of designing Ribs. Getting the geometry right while at the same time making sure it retains its organic appearance was challenging but fun. In 2003, to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of Ribs, I made a limited-edition version in polished aluminium. But it was difficult to make and I only produced two. So, I’m really happy to see it in aluminium once more."
