Since graduating with a Bachelor of Industrial Design (Honours) from the University of New South Wales, Seaton has worked to solve problems across a variety of fields, from furniture and workplace design to medical technology, transportation, and urban design. Seaton takes an idiosyncratic approach to purpose-driven design that combines rigorous research with knowledge of leading design trends and manufacturing innovations.

The studio has been met with a number of accolades including the inaugural Australian Furniture Design Award, the 2018 Good Design Australia 'Best in Class' Award, and inclusion in the design collection of the Art Gallery of South Australia.

Designers Sarah Gibson and Nicholas Karlovasitis established DesignByThem in 2007 after graduating as Industrial Designers at the University of Technology Sydney. As co-directors and industrial designers, the two design products for DesignByThem and have grown the company to include a curated collection of furniture, accessories and lighting from a stellar cohort of Australian designers.
